Brantford is a city located in the south eastern part of Ontario. It is about 100 kilometres north of Toronto and 50 kilometres east of Hamilton, both major economic players in the province. Brantford itself was one of the top three producers in the country during the first half of the 20th century, as it had a strong location advantage along the Grand River; in fact, the city is located along the deepest harbour on that waterway.
Several of the most important companies in the region shut down after the second World War, but today Brantford has managed to recover most of its economic stability as new companies have moved in. This is attributed in large part to the fact that Brantford was recently officially inducted into the "Golden Horseshoe" region of Ontario, meaning that it joins cities with big advantages in terms of transportation and shipping.
The improved economic prospects have meant that Brantford real estate has seen an increase in demand. Among the most popular, and most expensive, places to live are neighbourhoods that front onto the Grand River itself. Waterfront property is always in demand and Brantford real estate agents are kept busy showing off these estates.
Brantford is also home to a couple of different campuses where students can achieve post-secondary education in the form of undergraduate degrees. Mohawk College operates a satellite campus in the city, while Laurier has two offshoot projects in Nipissing University and Laurier Brantford. Homes for sale in these neighbourhoods also tend to be popular choices, as campus life tends to be lively and surrounding neighbourhoods cutting edge.
Along cultural lines, Brantford is also somewhat of a champion for the Canadian music scene. Each year, residents can look forward to the Murdered City Music Festival, which is designed to showcase independent Canadian artists.
A strong economy, diverse real estate, and a great culture all help define what Brantford living is all about. It's definitely a city worth taking a look into if you are thinking of relocating to the south eastern part of Ontario.
